EV Charger Installation in Connecticut

This is the mistake we see most often in Connecticut. Someone buys a 60 amp charger, we arrive, and the existing 100 amp service is already carrying electric water heating and central air with nothing spare. Now the charger install has become a panel upgrade and the budget has doubled.

We do the load calculation first, free of charge as part of the quote. If you have capacity, we tell you and get on with it. If you are tight, you have real options — a lower-amperage charger, a load-management device that shares capacity with another big appliance, or a service upgrade if you were heading that way anyway. All three get priced so you can choose.

A Level 2 charger on a 40 amp circuit delivers roughly 32 amps continuous, which adds around 25 to 30 miles of range per hour for most vehicles. On a 60 amp circuit you get about 48 amps and something closer to 40 miles per hour. For the overwhelming majority of Connecticut drivers, the 40 amp setup fully replenishes a daily commute overnight and the extra capacity is money spent on a number you never use.

The exception is a two-EV household or a long-range vehicle that regularly runs near empty. In those cases the larger circuit, or a dual-connector setup with load sharing, is worth it. We will ask about your driving before recommending hardware.

An EV charger lives in a visible place and gets used every day, so the finish matters. We mount at a height that lets the cable hang without kinking, route conduit along framing lines rather than diagonally across the wall, and leave the holster positioned so you are not fighting the cable in winter. Outdoor installs get proper weatherproof fittings, not indoor kit with sealant round it.

Where the run crosses to a detached garage in Connecticut, we trench to the correct depth with the right cable type rather than running an extension through a conduit and hoping. It costs more on day one and nothing thereafter.
